Pink Steak
Pink Steak in West Palm Beach sports an ambience that feels elegantly retro. South Florida retro. Pink flamingos are painted on the walls and viewed on flat screens. There's a fourteen foot high metal replica in the center of the dining room. I grew up in SoFL during a time when the plastic versions could be seen on many a lawn, be it in front of a modest post-WWII A-frame or an Addison Mizner designed mansion. Kitschy, for sure, but fun. Overhead lounge music was maybe a decibel louder than necessary.
The owners of Pink Steak designed their restaurant to feel less like an Old Boys' Club meeting place and more of a decidedly feminine buzz spot. This steakhouse has been spoken of quite a bit, especially by my patients, who frequent all the hot Dixie Highway eateries. My wife, who described the place as if designed by Lily Pulitzer, brought me for a birthday dinner back in April. Devoted readers of this blog will note I've hit several places around the county in search of a good steak. There are numerous. Pink?
Yes. We shared a twenty ounce bone-in NY strip, dry aged for thirty five days. Coffee rubbed. Pre-sliced for your pleasure. We had it medium rare (is there any other way?). Very good. Melt in your mouth. On par with its equivalent from competitors' kitchens. We had a side of mushrooms (but of course) and a twice baked potato. Our appetizer was a beet and burrata salad that was the best of its type I can remember. My chianti paired well with the meal. Dessert was a brownie concoction with a delicious caramel sauce topped with crunchy toffee pieces.
At the end of the day, it's always about the food, and Pink Steak is worth the trip, even if the menu does not outdo the others. I'm curious about their "lobsta disco brunch". If you're feeling fancy you can indulge the Royal Osetra caviar. Excellent raw bar selections, I hear. I will say the menu is pricy, relegating Pink to an occasional outing. The more well heeled among you may become regulars; let me know about that crab florentine toast.
