Mr. Leno
Jay Leno appeared at the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach, FL this past Wednesday evening. For about an hour and a half, his stand-up kept a mostly full auditorium amused with his observational type humor well known to fans of The Tonight Show between the early '90s and into the 2010s. People in line were buzzing in inquiry - Do you think he'll do any Trump jokes? Nah. Not for this audience! "This audience" being largely from Palm Beach, many of whom may not be able to stand Mr. 45, but nonetheless support him and get alarmingly defensive when he's mocked.
As it turns out, there were only a few barbs at Donald, with equal time given to both Bill and Hilary Clinton, and a few to Obama, Giuliani, Bernie Sanders, and others. Not too much political stuff. And Jay's material, like that of his buddy Jerry Seinfeld, is still pretty PG/PG-13, with no swears. While the sex jokes are somewhat risque they are far more innocent than what you'll hear elsewhere. Though, there were a curious amount of masturbation jokes this night. Otherwise, lots of witticisms about pharamaceutical companies and fast food. The gearhead also talked cars. He relayed gentle tales of his family, past and present. We were sent out with "to-go" jokes. A fun show.
Through a significant connection, I managed to get myself and four guests complimentary tickets for the show and backstage passes to meet Jay afterward. We had to snake around the back alleys of the theater and up the stairs near the loading docks to reach a check-in area, from which we were lead to a room with a few tables. Jay came in a few minutes later and was immediately affable and joking. A really friendly and gracious man who encouraged photo ops. A time that will be fondly remembered.
