SeaHawk Prime by David Burke
The late January night we joined our dinner companions (yes, J and A again) for a meal at SeaHawk Prime by David Buke in Lake Park, the beginnings of an historic cold front was buffeting South Florida. Not only cold, but awfully windy. Nearly forty miles an hour! Tropical storm force winds and cold air. This prompted some folks on social media to quip "Go home Mother Nature, you're drunk." I mention this for historical purposes, and it did not taint a lovely time by the Intracoastal Waterway.
SeaHawk Prime is located on the first floor of the new luxury residential tower Nautilus 220. Mr. Burke, very well known in restaurant circles, was seen hovering around the floor that Saturday. I began with the French onion soup, perfect as I was under the weather and seeking something warm. Just the right layer of cheese. Black truffles underneath. A and I once again split a steak, this time also with J - a thirty-four ounce dry aged porterhouse. Very very good. Not brushed with butter. Roasted mushrooms, tempura onion rings, and "old school" hashbrowns made suitable side dishes. My wife had the Florida snapper in tikka masala sauce. Tomato olive cous cous and spinach alongside. Delectable.
We all split an apple tart with vanilla ice cream. Just enough to cleanse the palate. By the way, if you want a bread basket, it will set you back fifteen dollars.
The clientele was upscale and in typically South Florida style, unsmiling and aloof. We weren't even in Palm Beach! We wondered where everyone had travelled from. Lake Park is just south of North Palm Beach and southeast of Palm Beach Gardens. Maybe some Jupiter folk too? Not sure. PBG and Jupiter diners tend to be friendlier. Either way, an elegant atmosphere, and worth a try should you find yourself down Florida way.
