Tacos del Cartel

You'll see a quartet of tacos come out, each attached to clothespins on a suspended string as if on a clothesline.  It is the tendedero de birrio.  A signature offering at Tacos del Cartel, a new Mexican eatery in downtown West Palm Beach on the west end of Clematis Street, next to O'Shea's, a longstanding Irish pub I've spent many an hour in since my 20s..  We did not try the tacos, but I can tell you the barbacoa de short rib was fabulous.  I finished all twenty ounces of it.  I also had a bite of my wife's avocado taco.  Thumbs up.

There's a thirty-four ounce tomahawk steak on the menu.  One of our dinner companions was a guy with whom I routinely share these.   Another time.

Tacos del Cartel began five years ago in New Orleans, a fusion of Mexican and Big Easy cuisines.   One location is in a NO suburb, Metairie, where an old friend lives.  I haven't been there since 1997, but never forgot how amazing the food was in the Quarter and well beyond.

Anyway, back in WPB there is a lot of show at TDC, with boisterous Happy Birthday trains to celebrate/embarrass friends and family.  One of the employees comes out in a Day of the Dead skull mask.  Another holds flashing lights.  My wife hates that and shielded her eyes.  The dinner and drink menus light up like iPads when you open them, like in a science fiction movie.

We reluctantly ordered dessert (we were stuffed) but couldn't resist the churros and ice cream. Also, waffle cones and dipping sauces. Served in a cart!
Fun atmosphere, really good food.
