Captain Charlie's Original Reef Grill

Captain Charlie's Original Reef Grill is in a very unassuming strip plaza which sits perpendicular to U.S. 1 in Juno Beach.  Our friends - with whom we ordinarily go to high end restaurants -invited us on a Saturday last month.  We were told to arrive early, before their opening at five.  Sure enough, there were already a few diners waiting in their vehicles when we got there.  A line formed at about five till.

It's been there since 1989, and the following is devoted.  Within a few minutes of being seated the place was full, including the bar.  The ambience is as causal as you might expect.  Warm and friendly.  Our waitress was one of the owners, I believe.  She juggled deftly among the crowd, neglecting no one.

The four of us shared sauteed grouper cheeks.  One of our friends just liked saying its name.  Several times.  Delicious, and there's a Tempura deep fried option.  I ordered a cup of conch chowder, which as the menu warns, is "a little spicy".  It was a nice preamble to fresh swordfish, also sauteed.  My wife had the wahoo, grilled.  Her portion was huge and she had dinner for the next evening as well.   She and I intended to share the apple cobbler ala mode but when it came out she felt too full and I scarfed most of it down myself.  It was a perfect palate cleanser.

There's an extensive wine list, though that night I opted for a Lagunitas on draft.

The restaurant is on the East end of the plaza, though if you go for lunch there is a separate unit a few doors west, separated by a barber shop.

Perfect for fresh seafood at a decent price, even though you're near the ocean!
