The Sonic Temple
If you are looking for an informative and entertaining podcast, and you're an obsessive music fan you should check out The Sonic Temple, which currently has three full length episodes. I believe a fourth arrives this week. Each focuses on three songs, related in some way, which are dissected musically and lyrically by hosts Jeff Snow and Francis Grenon and a guest, usually a musician, who picks the leadoff track. I know Jeff from church. He has played drums in various bands (Legends of Rodeo et. al) for several years and is an all around super cool gentleman. And does some excellent nuts and bolts analysis of the tunes.
The show is like catnip for rabid music geeks like myself. So far, Wilco, Radiohead, Porno for Pyros, Guns and Roses, and Pixies have been featured, along with artists you may not know like Charles Wright & the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band. The guys have a conversational style and are great fun (often hilarious) to listen to. In addition to the breakdowns, some great recollections about concerts, video shoots, and much more are shared along the way.
